Ramandu's daughter

Unwillingly sneaking in some hope for Voyage of the Dawn Treader: I hope they pick someone awesome for Ramandu's daughter, and give her a little extra screentime. We didn't get to see much of her, but she was cool in the books, and her fate in The Silver Chair made me cry even though it was just used to give her son and husband angst, basically.

All hail the ladies of Narnia: probably so much cooler than C.S. Lewis intended.

Well there goes all hope!

Fox has picked up Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

OH

FUCK

NO.

Edit: I'm talking about their history of brutally corrupting the source material and interfering with the director. I just lost all hope and all interest simultaneously. DID YOU SEE WHAT THEY DID TO THE DARK IS RISING

THEY SHOULD ALL BE ROUNDED UP AND FREAKING SHOT FOR THAT.

This is a terrible, terrible day.

Voyage of the Dawn Treader

"But Fox is famous for driving hard bargains and exercising fiscal discipline, so don't expect to see "Dawn Treader" costing anywhere near $225 million. Walden has been aiming to bring the new film in at around $140 million, which would be a far more enticing price tag for a 50/50 studio partner. If Fox passes, both Sony and Warner's Brothers have expressed strong interest in the project. It would be a good fit for either studio, giving Sony something it hasn't had in recent years--a fantasy-oriented family franchise, while it could provide Warners with a ready-made family-oriented franchise to replace the soon-to-be completed "Harry Potter" series. Whatever happens, it seems likely that "Narnia" fans will soon have another chance to visit the enchanted world of Narnia and other distant lands."

Please not Fox. Warners! Warners! Or just, you know, not Fox. I've heard suspicious things about them.

Meme and something wonderful

Grab the book nearest you. Right now. Turn to page 56. Find the fifth sentence. Post that sentence along with these instructions in your LiveJournal. Don't dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST.

Some of its fur had been worn away, and it had what appeared to be part of a tire track imprinted on its back.

By [info]j_lightningwolf, found through [info]whiteadelphi, something unspeakably awesome. On the subject of gay marriage and popular 'arguments' spouted.

1. Being Gay Is Not Natural
And real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning, tattoos, piercings and silicon breasts...

2. Gay Marriage Will Encourage People To Be Gay
In the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3. Legalizing Gay Marriage Will Open The Door To All Kinds Of Crazy Behavior
People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract. Lamps are next.

4. Straight Marriage Has Been Around A Long Time And Hasn't Changed At All
Hence why women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5. Straight Marriage Will Be Less Meaningful If Gay Marriage Were Allowed
And we can't let the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage be destroyed.

6. Straight Marriages Are Valid Because They Produce Children
So therefore, gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our population isn't out of control, our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7. Obviously Gay Parents Will Raise Gay Children
Since, of course, straight parents only raise straight children.*

8. Gay Marriage Is Not Supported By Religion
In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9. Children Can Never Succeed Without A Male And A Female Role Model
Which is exactly why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10. Gay Marriage Will Change The Foundation Of Society; We Could Never Adapt To New Social Norms
Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

GRUMPINESS!and a little gushing BUT MOSTLY GRUMPINESS!

The cascade of delays in the filming of Voyage of the Dawn Treader makes me grumpy, despite the fact that it's old news and for a very understandable and fair reason--making allowances for the young actors' schedules--and it still wouldn't have been out for a couple of years anyway.

I can be unreasonably grumpy, can't I? As long as I don't spill it over anybody else, I don't see it as a problem.

But you know what, damn it, the one thing I regret about Susan/Caspian is that I won't be able to enjoy the canon romance, since I'm such a yippy little bulldog of a shipper. I love Anna Popplewell hugely awesomely much and think she's talented and intelligent (and don't forget sorta badass. or completely gorgeous, don't forget those) and more to the point for the movie love Susan with all my weaselly little heart and I loved Ben Barnes in Stardust, and yum, together. And then what I actually got was wonderful. Also, guys? Why am I pretending I need some vestige of logic?

BUT SERIOUSLY: the movie has to flesh out the canon romance because honestly, after they gave us the glimpse mutual respect, fascination and admiration Susan and Caspian had, they are not going to saddle us with his marriage to a woman we know only as Ramandu's daughter because she's pretty and blonde.

Just no. Ok? No.
