In the Dreamwidth mailing list, there's a discussion going on about collapsing posts/enforcing LJ cuts on your flist with posts of a certain length. Long posts have never really bothered me, but I do notice that the people arguing for or against have two arguments:
Those against: We don't mind long posts, so just shut up or defriend the person, because it's 'evil'--direct quote--to do something that had a blanket effect on posts.
Those for: We'd like the option so we can choose and don't have our flists clogged up.
Someone posted a very polite explanation about how some people posted political rants or gory pictures with cuts on the pretext of THIS IS IMPORTANT SO I'M FORCING YOU TO LOOK without any consideration for someone who might have a child on their lap/be at their grandparent's house/etc and they didn't want to have to scroll past it.
In response, a little further on, there were a barrage of remarks about how if it bothered you, you should just scroll past, some of them quite rude, making it perfectly clear that they didn't even bother to read the arguments of their opponents.
Blargh.
