Marguerite Moreau; QotD
Oh man. Okay. Queen of the Damned.
First of all: as I recall--it's been years since I read them--I wasn't fond of the books. I found them overwrought and boring at best. Queen of the Damned was largely the exception; there was a lot about it I enjoyed, mostly involving Maharet and Mekare and Akasha. Still: remained utterly bored with Lestat, was quite enamoured of Jesse (if I'm recalling correctly).
The movie is...well, the movie is very different from the books. As I recall, it's a bit of fluff. I enjoyed the music and had campy, cheesy fun with the rest, and since that's how Stuart Townsend described the movie I'm content with what I came away with.
But picture this: small hotel rooms, small hotel. Hundred-plus degrees outside. There's a pool, but it's so heated it seems barely a few degrees below the hot tub. Nothing to do but huddle in our rooms. But lo! The rooms come with movies! And herein lays my introduction to Queen of the Damned. Also Dracula 2000. Silence of the Lambs was also available, but it would take a tremendous amount of brute force to make me watch that movie. Loved the book, consider the movie blasphemy. Anthony Hopkins = NO. At least for that role.
And I'm quite fond of vampire stories, so....I then discovered I loved Marguerite Moreau. It's been so long since I watched the movie I don't recall too many detailed impressions except she wore too-ruddy makeup through most of the movie, looked gorgeous anyway, and I was starstruck on the spot. I'm going to watch it again online today. I'll try my best not to skip through everything that doesn't contain Marguerite Moreau.
Although I came across a few interviews with Stuart Townsend and discovered he has a great sense of humor, and he seems like a cool guy.
I'm also going to watch Firestarter II, since a) it has Marguerite Moreau in it and b) is about a gorgeous girl setting things on fire. With her mind. Insta-win!
